Dr. Christopher Barrick serves as the Department Head of Music and Theatre, and the James & Ann Bumpass Distinguished Chair of Music, at the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith. As Associate Professor of Music, he directs the UAFS Jazz Band and teaches applied saxophone.
A versatile musician and educator, Barrick performs and teaches all styles of music including classical, jazz, and rock. He has given solo performances at numerous professional conferences including those of the North American Saxophone Alliance, the United States Navy Band International Saxophone Symposium, and the Association for Technology in Music Instruction.
His scholarship has been published in the North American Saxophone Alliance’s Saxophone Symposium. In 2009, Lambert Academic Publishing published his book on the saxophone repertoire of composer Elliot Del Borgo. Barrick has presented research at the International Clarinet Association’s ClarinetFest 2012,the United States Navy Band International Saxophone Symposium, the national conference of the National Association of College Wind and Percussion Instructors, and at regional conferences of the College Music Society.
