2017-18 CLC Class Announced at UAFS
Twelve students will participate in the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith’s Chancellor’s Leadership Council scholarship program during the 2017-18 school year, a highly competitive program for students demonstrating leadership capabilities and strong academic performance.
UAFS Graduate Heads to Alaska to Teach
Fittingly, it was Tyler William’s high school English teacher who showed Williams the impact he could have as an educator. “Growing up in a poor rural school district, he invested heavily in every student,” Williams said. “He believed in every one of us, no matter how much resistance he met. That was truly an inspiration, and I wanted to be that for someone else.” Now, after graduating from the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith this spring, the Hartford native will have the opportunity to do just that after earning a teaching position in Newtok, Alaska, where he will teach math to Yupik, which are indigenous Alaskan natives.

A pop musician best known for his hit song featured in “Rocky IV” and a prominent local musician will treat Fort Smith residents to a concert at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 28 as part of the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith’s Season at The Blue Lion.

The University of Arkansas – Fort Smith will hold its annual Majors Expo from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Sept. 20 in the Reynolds Room of the Smith-Pendergraft Campus Center, offering students an opportunity to choose from the university’s more than 60 baccalaureate degree offerings.
UAFS Music Faculty Showcase to Take Place Sept. 12
The University of Arkansas – Fort Smith will host a Music Faculty Showcase at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 12 at The Blue Lion at UAFS Downtown, located at 101 N. 2nd Street.

The University of Arkansas – Fort Smith’s annual exhibit featuring photographs taken during the Sept. 11 attacks will be on display this year from Sept. 5-12 in the Smith-Pendergraft Campus Center, located at 800 N. 49th Street.
Blood Drive at UAFS to be Held Sept. 12-13
The University of Arkansas Fort Smith’s first blood drive of the new school year will be held from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Sept. 12-13 in the Reynolds Room of the Smith-Pendergraft Campus Center, with donors receiving a “Win from Within” T-shirt.
